The cranial nerve VI innervates and activates the lateral rectus muscle whose action mechanism is external rotation of the eye.Nerve injury cranial nerve VI is the most frequent oculo-motor paralysis. This can be partial (paresis) or complete (paralysis), leadingto the emergence of convergent ocular deviation manifestation of double vision or diplopia. The causes are: vascular, traumatic, inflammatory, infectious and tumor. Most resolve spontaneously in weeks or months. Double vision may be covered with horizontal head rotation or prismatic optical correction. In the acute phase, the injection of botulinum toxin speeds recovery. In cases of greatmagnitude is required occlusion of the affected eye. If after six months persists deviation and diplopia is disabling, surgical treatment is imposed.Dr. Juan J. Rodríguez Ezcurra.

Undoubtedly, a healthy and balanced diet is essential to keep our eyes healthy. Vitamin A, found in carrots, spinach, tomatoes or peaches, it is imperative to carry out all the visual process (hence the correct belief that eating carrots strengthens the view). Vitamins C (abundant in citrus fruits) and E (in vegetable oils, grains and nuts) and lutein and zeaxanthin (carotenoids present in green leafy vegetables like spinach or chard) possess antioxidant properties that help prevent or slow the aging eye and thus common diseases such as macular degeneration or cataracts. Oily fish (tuna, sardines, anchovies or salmon) is rich in omega 3, which also enhance antioxidant mechanisms, promote the functioning of the retina, prevent diseases such as glaucoma, improve the quality of the tear film and contribute well to good eye health in general.Dra. Mª José Capella.

At first contact lenses are designed refractive purposes (to correct myopia, astigmatism, farsightedness), therapeutic (for corneal problems) or prosthetic (to mask corneal lesions in blind eyes). There are also colored contact lenses for occasional use. They moved, can cause blurred vision and it can also cause dry eye. However, being aware of their pros and cons, can be used on special occasions, provided that they are disposable contact lenses (disposable), and putting on preservative-free artificial tears frequently during use.Maria de la Paz.
