Research Chair in Ophthalmology "Joaquín Barraquer" (CJBIO) collaborates with several research centres, both nationally and internationally.

It pertains to the thematic network “Ocular Pathology of Aging, Visual Quality and Quality of Life" from the Carlos III Health Institute, which is adscript to the Ministry of Health. Within this framework, several lines are being developed such as the conservative treatment for the keratoconus (one of the corneal pathologies so far most frequently requiring a corneal transplant ) though alternative techniques such as the implant of intracorneal ring segments.

The CJBIO is also member of the European Vision Institute, a European network of accredited centres for research and clinical trials in ophthalmology with the highest quality standards in accordance with European and international guidelines.
