Retinal detachment

Retinal detachment is separation of the neurosensory retina from the underlying tissue, caused by the accumulation of fluid between the two structures.
The most common initial symptom, although not always present, is the sight of flashing lights, sometimes repetitive and collected on a single sector of the visual field, the patient may also direct the partial or total loss of their visual field. Treatment is always surgical and involves the repositioning of the retina.
It should go to the ophthalmologist as soon as possible, with the appearance of any of the symptoms described above. Generally, we recommend an annual ophthalmologic examination, performing a pupillary dilation to check the peripheral retina.
