Pterygium and pinguecula

Among the most common eye diseases and find oldest-known pterygium and its minor variant, the pinguecula. They are growths on the eye surface, totally benign but can cause irritation and impaired vision. Many patients come to the consultation to present "a lump or white cloth on the eye" may become red and irritated, or grow into the pupil. This is usually a pinguecula or pterygium.

Their treatment varies, as usual for pinguecula is the indication of anti-inflammatory eye drops and lubricants, and rarely will be removed. In the pterygium, however, is common indication for surgery. It is therefore advisable to go to the ophthalmologist at the onset of these symptoms, so you can evaluate the most appropriate treatment.
