Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB, 1979), specialized in Ophthalmology (1982), he received his doctorate in 1987 with the qualification of "Cum Laude". At present he is Attached Medical Director of Barraquer Ophthalmology Centre (COB), and his medical-surgical activity is mainly specialized in the anterior segment of the eye: cataract surgery, glaucoma, corneal transplant and refractive surgery. He is also founder and director of the Ocular Oncology Unit.

He maintains an important education labor as Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona as well as in the Teaching Commission for training MIR residents in the COB, of which he is President.

One has to emphasize his role as investigator, as he holds, too, the " Joaquín Barraquer Research Chair in Ophthalmology ", from the UAB, since its foundation.

He has published many monographs and articles in the most prestigious scientific journals and has won numerous awards and distinctions, both nationally and internationally.
