Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in 1990, specializing in ophthalmology (1994), and Doctor of Medicine and Surgery, UAB (2003), with an Excellent Cum Laude qualification. He has received additional training in Ophthalmology at various centers in the U.S., such as the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (1993), Charles Retina Institute (1996), Wills Eye Hospital (1999), and Edward Harkness Eye Hospital (2000), among others.

At Centro de Oftalmología Barraquer he has been coordinating the Vitreo-Retinal Department since 2001, and the Ocular Oncology Unit since 2000. He has been granted several awards and honors, both nationally and internationally, most notably the "Rhett Buckler Award" in 2008 and 2010, awarded by the American Society of Retinal Specialists.
