MIR Program

Legal framework:

Specialized medical training is regulated in Spain by Royal Decree 904/2001 and Ministerial Order of June 27, 1989, which establishes the obligation to attend a competitive-course in order to obtain any of the posts of Resident and Internal Physician (MIR) that are offered each year.

To access the calls made annually by the Ministry of Health he/she must be in possession of either the Bachelor in Medicine and Surgery Certificate, its homologated equivalent or, failing that, the safeguard of proceeding, to be attached to the formal application that will be submitted either to the Ministry itself, to the government offices or branch offices or diplomatic or consular offices of Spain abroad.

Requirements:

  1. The applicant must have passed the MIR examination and must have obtained the right to make specialization courses.

  2. A hand-written curriculum must have reached the secretary of the Institute well in advance of the allocation of places, accompanied by the academic transcript and personal data, along with the formal application.

  3. The applicant should not have any physical or other disabilities, which might prevent him from the normal practice of ophthalmology.

  4. The applicant must undergo an interview-examination after which, if appropriate, he will be delivered the conformity to pursue the specialty of Ophthalmology at the Centre.

MIR Program length:

The duration of a specialization in ophthalmology is 4 years.

Number of places credits:

The Centre is accredited to admit every year 5 new residents.

Registration requirements:

Applicants must be in possession of the Bachelor’s Title in Medicine and Surgery (or its safeguard of having requested it). After reviewing the curriculum and other merits that the candidate may contribute, the Teaching Commission of IUB determines his/her admission.
