What does the operation consist of?

Cataract surgery involves removing the opaque contents of the lens using ultrasound and replacing it with a custom intraocular lens (IOL):

  • Monofocal IOLs, which allow excellent quality of vision but only have one focus point.
  • Multifocal IOL, which allow the patient to see well from afar, at medium and short distance.
  • Extended focus IOLs, which allow you to see correctly in both distance and intermediate vision

The patient is discharged after the surgery covering the operated eye. The next day, the patient’s eye is uncovered, and they can start a treatment with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories that lasts for a few weeks. If it is required in both eyes, the surgery is usually performed first in one eye and after a few days in the other.
