Visual health for vulnerable groups: the new charitable campaign by the Barraquer Foundation and General Optica

06/05/2026

The Barraquer Foundation and General Optica are launching a new charitable round-up campaign across Spain to help facilitate access to visual health for people in vulnerable situations.

Visual health for vulnerable groups continues to be one of the major invisible inequalities in our society. For many people in vulnerable situations, accessing an ophthalmological check-up, prescription glasses or appropriate treatment is not always possible. In response to this reality, the Barraquer Foundation has launched a new initiative with General Optica to continue caring for the vision of those who need it most.

The new charitable round-up campaign is already active in all General Optica stores across Spain and allows any customer to make a small financial contribution at the time of payment. It is a simple gesture which, combined with many other contributions, directly supports the Barraquer Foundation’s social programmes and helps ensure greater access to visual health for vulnerable people.

Corporate charitable campaigns with real social impact

This initiative forms part of the different corporate charitable campaigns that make it possible to expand the Foundation’s social impact. Beyond fundraising, the campaign also highlights the importance of creating partnerships between the social sector and the private sector in order to respond to real community needs.

The Barraquer Foundation works from Barcelona to transform medical excellence into tangible social action, promoting projects involving care, prevention, training and awareness related to eye health. It currently provides care each year to hundreds of people referred by social organisations and develops programmes aimed at reducing inequalities in the field of vision.

In this context, the collaboration with General Optica strengthens an essential support network that enables the Foundation to continue developing care programmes and prevention initiatives aimed at vulnerable groups. The Foundation itself stresses that initiatives such as this make it possible to continue working “with commitment, proximity and solidarity” to make accessible visual health a real right for everyone.

Why is it so important to guarantee access to visual health?

Good vision affects essential aspects of everyday life: independence, learning, safety and quality of life. Even so, many older people, children and families facing financial difficulties live with undiagnosed visual problems or without the possibility of receiving treatment.

That is why charitable round-up initiatives such as this not only raise funds, but also help raise awareness in society of the need to guarantee more accessible and dignified visual health for vulnerable groups. Behind every donation there are ophthalmological check-ups, treatments, prescription glasses and new opportunities for people who are often left outside the usual healthcare channels.

At the Barraquer Foundation, every partnership is also a way of continuing to make its social commitment a reality: “Mirem per tu”. Because caring for vision also means caring for people.

Would you like to support the Barraquer Foundation? We make it easy for you!

Every small gesture can have a major impact. The next time you visit a General Optica store, you can join this charitable round-up campaign and help continue improving access to visual health for the people who need it most.
