Glaucoma is a chronic disease that requires constant check-ups; and compliance with treatment is key for effective control of the disease. As it is asymptomatic in its early stages, an early diagnosis is the best way to control its development.
Primary glaucoma can have a genetic basis, which may or may not manifest itself. Which is why a very exhaustive check-up on the children of parents with glaucoma is recommended. And annual eye examinations are recommended for patients with predisposing factors.
