Annual meeting and awards ceremony of Barraquer Institute

18/06/2025

On June 17, the Barraquer Institute held its long-awaited Annual Meeting, a day dedicated to recognizing the commitment, excellence and work of the entity's collaborators and the residents of the center. This event not only strengthens the ties that unite us as a community, but also gives us the opportunity to review the achievements and progress made during the last year.

Prof. Rafael I. Barraquer was in charge of welcoming the attendees, inaugurating a day full of recognitions, emotional moments and reflections on the path taken.

Recognising commitment and strengthening alliances with our partners

The event took place in the emblematic Auditorium II and began with the delivery of diplomas to the “Collaborators of the Year 2024”. This distinction honours the tireless work of those who, with their daily efforts, actively contribute to the growth and prestige of the institution. The winners, unanimously selected by the Governing Board of the Barraquer Institute, were:

Barraquer Institute Awards to Residents

During the ceremony, the excellent trajectory of our residents was also recognized with the delivery of the Barraquer Institute Awards, an example of the institution's commitment to excellence training, innovation and ophthalmology research, which were:

  • Resident of the Year Award: Dr. Andrea Pastor, for his professionalism, involvement and fellowship.

These recognitions reflect the Institute's firm intention to support young talent and foster a culture of continuous learning.

The presentation by Gonzalo Bernardos

One of the highlights of the day was the intervention of the renowned economist and professor, Gonzalo Bernardos, a polemicist, sincere, fun, direct and even visionary, who offered an x-ray of current affairs and tried to predict everything that is to come, through his talk “The world in which we are and the world that comes”.

Finally, Prof. Rafael I. Barraquer closed the event with a few words of thanks and offering an aperitif to the participants, putting the finishing touch to an unforgettable day for the Barraquer community.
