The Instituto Barraquer receives the Medal of Honour from the Reial Acadèmia de Medicina de Catalunya

The Instituto Barraquer has received the Medal of Honour from the Reial Acadèmia de Medicina de Catalunya (RAMC) in recognition of its generous contribution to this academic institution. The ceremony was held on 16 June, during an extraordinary session of the RAMC.

An institutional recognition of the trajectory of the Instituto Barraquer

The presentation of the Medal of Honour represented a recognition of special significance for the Instituto Barraquer, an institution historically linked to the advancement of ophthalmology, teaching and medical research.

This recognition highlighted the Instituto Barraquer’s contribution to the activity of the RAMC and reinforced the institution’s commitment to scientific excellence, the training of new specialists and the continuous improvement of ophthalmological care.

Distinction awarded to Dr Javier Elizalde

The extraordinary session of the Reial Acadèmia de Medicina de Catalunya was held on the occasion of the reception of the award winners granted the title of Corresponding Academician in the Professor Joaquín Barraquer Prize call, corresponding to the years 2024 and 2025.

During the ceremony, Dr Javier Elizalde Montagut was recognised and was admitted as a Corresponding Academician. He delivered a lecture on the award-winning article “Globe penetration during loco-regional anesthesia: prevalence and review of cases”. On behalf of the RAMC, the award winners were welcomed by Dr Rafael Ignacio Barraquer Compte, Corresponding Academician of the institution.
