The Barraquer Institute held the inauguration of the 2026–2027 academic year on 6 October, an event that marked the beginning of a new cycle of specialised training in ophthalmology.

The ceremony began with the traditional academic procession and the introduction of the event by Prof. Rafael I. Barraquer. This was followed by the inaugural lecture, "No More Cataracts, a Global Challenge", delivered by Dr Elena Barraquer, in which she addressed one of the major outstanding challenges in eye health worldwide.

Following this, Prof. Javier Lafuente Sancho, Rector of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and Prof. Albert Balaguer, former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at UIC, then officially opened the academic year.

The event concluded with a farewell cocktail reception, giving attendees the opportunity to exchange impressions and welcome the new academic year.
