We inaugurate our renovated inpatient ward

18/09/2025

At the Barraquer Ophthalmology Centre, we take a new step in our commitment to healthcare excellence and innovation by inaugurating the renovation of an inpatient ward that strengthens our patient-centered model. This renovation is part of the strategic transformation plan we launched in 2018 and represents a milestone in the modernization of our facilities, aligned with the highest clinical and human standards. The renovation of the space was carried out by Pinearq, the architecture firm specialized in the design of hospitals and healthcare facilities.

The renovation has been conceived to offer a first-class hospital experience, especially adapted to the needs of ophthalmology patients. With 23 spaces distributed among single rooms, adapted suites, and cubicles for outpatient surgery, the area stands out for a design that prioritizes comfort, privacy, and efficiency.

“Barraquer is a centre with a long tradition and prestige, as well as being deeply oriented toward the future. This inpatient ward is a clear example of how we combine our medical vocation with the most advanced technology and with personalized, human care. All of this with one objective: that our patients receive not only the best treatment, but also a warm, safe, and efficient healthcare experience,” says Alberto Madrigal, Deputy Manager of the centre.

Among the main new features, the following stand out:

  • Functional and aesthetic design inspired by the centre’s original architecture, with warm materials such as wood and decorative solutions that provide light and serenity.
  • State-of-the-art technology, including independent climate control, access control with RFID card, and a patient-nurse communication system with traceability of interventions.
  • Energy sustainability, with dimmable LED lighting, thermal insulation on the façade, and zoned climate control for greater savings.
  • Differentiated environments, with cubicles for short-stay hospitalization and adapted rooms for longer stays, especially designed for patients traveling from other regions or countries.
  • Spaces for companions, with welcoming waiting areas, ergonomic furniture, and attention to the comfort of family members during the patient’s recovery.

In addition to improving the user experience, the new ward optimizes the work of our healthcare staff, thanks to better use of existing spaces, supportive technology for clinical follow-up, and functional, ergonomic work areas.

The opening of this unit strengthens our position as a national and international reference centre in ophthalmology, where each step in the improvement of infrastructure translates into greater patient well-being and into closer, more human, and more efficient medical care.
