Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an innovative treatment for the progressive regeneration of tissues that we have been providing for years at the Barraquer Ophthalmology Centre. The procedure is carried out quickly and on an outpatient basis:

Before the treatment

The most important thing is choosing a specialised centre that can offer guarantees. The greater the skill involved in preparing the product, the more effective the treatment.

As this is an autologous treatment, a small blood sample is required from the patient in order to prepare it in our own facilities. Before producing the plasma, our specialists will analyse the extracted sample for added reassurance. They will then isolate the growth factors present in the patient’s blood under optimal sterile conditions and subsequently take the preparation to the consulting room to carry out the treatment.

Treatment

PRP-based treatment lasts approximately 20–30 minutes, is applied using the microneedling technique, and requires topical anaesthetic cream.

PRP is compatible with other treatments such as the infiltration (injection) of dermal fillers (hyaluronic acid), neuromodulators, revitalising peels or facial mesotherapy, among others.

Duration: 20–30 minutes

Result: 48 hours

Effects: 6 months

Anaesthesia: Always

After the treatment

A mild erythema (facial redness) commonly appears during the first 24–48 hours. The patient can resume their activities immediately after the treatment, which is carried out on an outpatient basis. Although it is a procedure that can be performed at any time of year, even in summer, it is advisable to avoid sun exposure, UV rays and sub-zero temperatures for at least 48 hours afterwards.

It is recommended to have two or three sessions per year, leaving an interval of around 3 months between each session.
